Emeritus Faculty Policy
Executive Committee, Department of Psychology, 10/20/97
Emeritus faculty are a valued resource to this Department and the University and it is in the best interests of the Department to provide resources to retired faculty who continue to participate in academic programs. Consequently, the policy for the provision of resources is as follows:
The Department will endeavor to provide emeritus faculty current office space for one academic year following the retirement date. However, it may be necessary to provide alternative space during the first academic year and after. If so, the Chair and the emeritus faculty member will negotiate moving and archival assistance through temporary staffing support and identification of storage space.
In addition, emeritus faculty will retain their CLA-net computer equipment, telephone services and Ethernet connections for the period of one academic year following their retirement date. After that point, use of these items and a small supply budget will be negotiated between the emeritus faculty member and the Chair.
After the period of one academic year, an office, telephone and Ethernet connection will be provided on a yearly basis upon evidence of academic activity within the Department. Emeritus faculty will continue to provide a Faculty Annual Activity Report according to Department procedures. This information will be reviewed by the Chair and Associate Chair and a letter of continuation will be provided.
Retired and emeritus faculty are encouraged to provide service to the Department through teaching, special seminars, colloquium, fundraising and long-term planning. Whenever possible, resources, (i.e., offices, supply budgets, communication services) will be provided to encourage retired faculty to remain involved in the Department.
Note: CLA Net policy is that computers assigned to retired faculty return to the department.
