Travel/Research Awards administered by the Department of Psychology
David Campbell Graduate Research Fellowship
The David Campbell Graduate Research Fellowship Fund is designed to provide financial assistance to graduate students seeking a PhD degree in Psychology, with priority given to supporting students who are attending international psychology workshops or conferences. Applications are accepted twice yearly--in September for conferences taking place from January 1 through June 30 and in March for conferences taking place from July 1 through December 31. Deadlines to be announced.
Travel and Research Award
Travel and research awards are funded by a gift from Harrison and Kathryn Gough and the College of Liberal Arts. Funds are awarded to students for psychology research expenses or first author travel expenses related to presenting at psychology conferences or meetings. There is no application deadline. There is a limit of one award per graduate student per fiscal year (July 1 - June 30) and will be based on availability of funds. Application Form (doc) (pdf)
College of Liberal Arts Summer Fellowships
Graduate Research Partnership Program (GRPP) Summer Fellowships
The GRPP provides a summer research stipend to CLA graduate students to support their professional, scholarly, and creative development while collaborating with a CLA faculty project adviser on scholarly research and creative activity. Fellowship recipients are chosen by the Department of Psychology. Deadline is in early March.

Doctoral Dissertation Fellowship
The purpose of the Doctoral Dissertation Fellowship (DDF) program is to give outstanding final-year Ph.D. candidates who are making timely progress toward the degree--typically those entering their fifth year of graduate study--an opportunity to complete the dissertation within the upcoming academic year by devoting full-time effort to the research and writing of the dissertation. Stipend: $22,500 in 2009-10. Departmental deadline: to be announced (usually in late-February). Departmental nomination required.Thesis Research Grant
Grants of up to $2,500 are available to support dissertation research, such as domestic travel and expenses for fieldwork, postage, and photocopying. Students apply in one of two categories: 1) for students in the beginning stages of their graduate career (eligible students may apply in their first or second year of Graduate School, or 2) for doctoral students who are in the intermediate or advanced phase of their program at the time of application, usually in their third year or later. One award. Stipend: $22,000 for the 2009-10 academic year, plus tuition. Application deadline: December 1st. Nomination by the department is not required.
Interdisciplinary Doctoral Fellowship
These awards are intended for students whose current or proposed dissertation topic is interdisciplinary and who would benefit from interaction with faculty at one of the University-wide, interdisciplinary research centers or institutes. Stipend: $22,500 for the 2009-10 academic year, plus tuition. Departmental deadline: mid-March. Departmental nomination is required (we may nominate one student).William W. Stout and Thomas F. For graduate students in the humanities or social sciences who are in the intermediate years of the Ph.D. (i.e., normally students currently in their second or third year of graduate study). Up to two awards. Stipend: $22,000 for the academic year, plus tuition. Departmental deadline: to be announced (usually in mid-November). Departmental nomination required (we may nominate one student).
Graduate Funding Opportunities through the APA Science Directorate
APA Dissertation Research Award
Annual award program to assist doctoral students with the costs of dissertation research. Awards are granted to students whose dissertation research reflects excellence in scientific psychology. The dissertation proposal must be approved by the student's dissertation committee prior to application. Award amount: multiple awards ranging from $1,000-$5,000. Departmental deadline: to be announced (usually in early September). Departmental nomination required (we may nominate three students).APA Early Researcher Award
These awards recognize outstanding student researchers who are currently early in their graduate training (i.e., this should be recently completed research, within approximately twelve months preceding the submission deadline). Applications are submitted directly to the APA (nomination by the department is not required). Award amount: three awards of $1,000 each. Deadline: early September. APA Student Travel Award
Annual award program for graduate students who have been accepted to present their research findings at the APA Convention. Applicants must be student affiliates or associate members of APA and research papers or posters must already have been accepted by an APA division for presentation. Award amount: $300 in 2009. Departmental deadline: to be announced (usually in March). Departmental nomination required (we may nominate three students).APF/COGDOP Graduate Research Scholarship
The purpose of this scholarship program is to assist graduate students of psychology with research costs. Award amount: multiple awards ranging from $1,000-$3,000. Departmental deadline: to be announced (usually in mid-May). Departmental nomination required (we may nominate two students).
